Chemical peels have been used for over 100 years to treat facial wrinkles and the signs of aging.  Thousands of chemical peels are performed in the United States every year.  A chemical peel uses a solution (e.g. glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid) applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new cells.  Depending on the type of peel performed, the results include smoother skin, more even pigmentation, and reduced wrinkling.  While it is not a replacement for a face lift, the chemical peel does provide smoother, more youthful looking skin.

During your consultation at Carolina Dermatology, we will help determine the right type of chemical peel for you.  In general, the deeper the chemical peel, the greater the improvement and the longer the recovery required.  Deeper peels make you more sensitive to the sun during the recovery phase, so we typically perform these procedures in the fall and winter.
